Behavioral and Emotional Problems among Orphans: A Review Paper

Abstract

Aim of this review was to investigate the behavioral and emotional problems among orphans. Behavioral problems are conduct problems, peer-relationship problem, hyperactivity, aggressiveness, low prosocial behavior, externalizing and internalizing behavior. Emotional behavior such as depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, isolation, child neglect and hopelessness. A combination of re-analysis of research studies was done among orphans using many computerized databases to search published research studies like Research Gate, PsycINFO, EBSCO, Crossref, Medline, PubMed and Scopus database. The findings of these studies revealed that orphans are significantly associated with symptoms of depression, general anxiety, stress, aggression, low self-esteem, externalizing and internalizing behaviors. The keywords used to look through the databases were significant to behavioral and emotional problems in which signs and symptoms include anxiety, depression, stress, decision making skills, externalizing behaviors, internalizing behaviors, aggression, conduct problem, peer-relationship problem, emotional health, mental health, self-esteem, self- concept, quality of life, child neglect.
