Outdoor Broadband Measurement of the Electromagnetic Field Strength in UiTM Cawangan Pulau Pinang Campus

Abstract

The aim of this study is to conduct an outdoor broadband measurement of the
Electromagnetic Field Strength (EMF) in Universiti Teknologi MARA, Cawangan Pulau Pinang.
The range of frequency used in the measurement was from 100 kHz to 8 GHz. A suitable probe
sensor was selected according to the measurement frequencies. Several spot locations to conduct
the measurement were identified based on the mapping measurement done by using a device called
Map EM and are mounted and mapping is done from the base station location in the campus to
several location that has a significant EMF value. In this project, an electromagnetic field strength
meter has been used as a device to conduct measurement of EMF strength around UiTM campus.
The results were observed and compared with the International Commission on Non-Ionizing
Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) safe levels. Based on the measurement, it is found that the maximum
value of the electromagnetic field strength value in the UiTM campus area is still below the safety
limit by ICNIRP.
