The Effect of Autonomous Learning Theory in Improving Morphology at the College Level: Proposing a Self-learning Kit

Abstract

This study investigates the morphological errors committed by Omani learners in a college in Oman. This research is considered as a mixed-method design because it contains quantitative and qualitative actions. The researcher applied Research and Development (R&D) methodology to propose a self-learning kit that influence in minimizing or solving the morphological errors and shift the learners from a traditional learner to become an autonomous learner.  This methodology was adopted by Gall, Gall and Borg (2003) by applying developing steps starting with the analysis step, followed by stating the learning objectives and proposing the new learning material. This learning material was valid and reliable by applying some steps and finally using ANOVA to test its effect on the students’ performance. The sample contained 70 previous final examinations in the analysis process, 30 student in the validity process and 50 students in the last step of testing the students’ performance. The results showed improvement after using the new Self-learning Kit in the selected morphological areas.
