A Case Study on HRM Practices of Library Managers
Abstract
This study analyzes the human resource management practices of library manager. This study seeks to determine the HRM best practices, issues and challenges of library managers in Cebu, Bohol and Negros Occidental. Furthermore, the library was assessed according to: 1) staffing; 2) recruitment and hiring; 3) training and staff development; 4) best HRM practices; 5) issues/challenges; and 6) advice to future library managers. The researchers adopted a case analysis type of research with the head librarian or chief librarian as the respondents. The questions used were a researcher-made questionnaire. Based on the analysis of the results of the study, HRM in library performs specific functions but it varies from one library to another. HRM coordinated with the library managers in planning, organizing, directing and controlling. The recruitment and hiring process process in every library is almost the same. They start with job announcement, selection then hiring. However, the issues and challenges include absenteeism and tardiness which was very common to all. The study will serve as guidelines to the future library managers.
