Experimental Investigation of Influence of Fillers on Wear Properties of Used Jute Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composite

Abstract

The natural fiber composite demand increasing day by day in automotive industries. Polymer composites and hybrid polymer composites are replacing many of the monolithic materials and alloys due to their higher strength to weight ratio, while apparently exhibiting excellent strength to corrosion and wear resistance. Present work aims to utilise the used jute as fibre material and to investigate its tribological characteristics. The present work also intend to investigate the influence of the graphite and wollastonite fillers on wear rate of used jute epoxy composite material. composite specimens made with different weight percentages (3,6,9,12) are subjected to wear test on Pin-on-Disc setup as per ASTM G-99 Standard. Abrasion test is carried at normal loads of 9.81 N, 19.62N and 29.43N for abrasion durations of 5 min, 10 min and 15 min. the results revealed that the graphite and wollastonite fillers showing significant effect on the wear rate. Graphite promoting the wear rate and wollastonite reducing the wear rate after 3wt% of filler in used jute epoxy composite
