Abstract

Microwave absorbers are used in an anechoic chamber to eliminate the reflection of unwanted electromagnetic radiation generated by electronic devices. Slotted Hollow Biomass Pyramidal Microwave Absorber is one of the promising low-cost absorbers that provide feasible performance while sustaining low cost and bio-friendly material. This paper presents the effect of slot array number on the absorber performance. Different number of identical slots that form different arrays are implemented on different pyramidal microwave absorbers, in order to study the optimal number of slots that can improve the reflectivity performance. Carbon from the biomass material to coat the pyramidal absorber surface is used in the work. The study was conducted on three designs, a one slot design, two slots array design and four slots array design in the frequency range of 1 GHz to 12 GHz. The experimental results show that the number of slots has an effect towards the reflectivity performance at all frequency band. The performance amongst the three designs are compared and analyzed to provide a reference for future absorber designs.
