The Trends of Aviation Business in the New Normal Condition of Thailand

Abstract

The objective of this research is to study the current condition of aviation business and to study the trends of aviation business in the New Normal condition of Thailand.  This is a qualitative research.  The sample group of people used in the study consisted of those in the aviation business such as, aviation executives, airline executives, airline personnel, airport staff and passengers or travelers on airlines such as business travelers or tourists in general, totaling 86 key informants.  The study is done by in-depth interview, participatory observation and non-participatory observation at the Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang international airports, Thailand.

It is found from the study that 1) In November 2020, the condition of the aviation business in Thailand has begun to recover slightly, comparing to the condition in September 2020, and there has been more passengers.  This is due to the stimulus package measure,  started by the government and the aviation business organizations in building up the travelers’ confidence  2) The trends of aviation business in the New Normal condition of Thailand during the pandemic of COVID-19 is, that the aviation organizations must take important actions, in order to modify the organization to be flexible and to be able to reduce expenses, focusing on the domestic travels, adjusting suitable conditions of the aviation business, collaborating with other organizations in making the airports as a center linking hub, covering all the travelling accessibility across the country, create more aviation-related businesses, using technology in management, adjusting the teaching and learning in aviation and create the readiness for the growth of Thailand’s aviation business, as soon as the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic is resolved in the future.
