Evaluation of Material Model Parameters of Sand, Silt, and Sand-Silt Mixtures
Abstract
In general, soil behavior is expected to be described using a model. The first generation of material constitutive models is elastic and elastoplastic models. The second generation of material constitutive models are perfect plasticity and linear strain hardening or softening plastic models. Apart from this, there are simple hyperbolic models and hardening soil models. The constitutive model parameters are influenced by soil texture, grain size, distribution, particle shape, and classification. This study is intended to understand the influence of grain size and percentage of silt content in the commonly used constitutive models. The model parameters are obtained through several triaxial tests. The material model parameter K increases with D60, D30, and D50. The parameters m and n decrease with D60, D30, and D50. The K value is minimized with maximized D10, whereas m and n increase with D10.
