MAC LAYER QOS PARAMETER ANALYSIS OF WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
Abstract
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consists of a large number of sensor nodes that are self organized to form a network and communicate with neighbors wirelessly to share the sensed information about the environment. Generally, these tiny nodes are with low power batteries and are distributed in an ad hoc environment in a decentralized fasion. In most of the applications like environmental monitoring and control systems, sensor nodes are deployed randomly. The accessibility of sensor nodes to replace or recharge the battery after deployment in such applications may be difficult or impossible. In general, wireless sensor nodes are designed with a very small battery that could supply very less power for the operations. The entire function of the node depends on the battery power. Lifetime of a sensor network is determined by residual power of the sensor nodes in the network. Therefore, improving energy conservation become a significant performance objective in wireless sensor networks. This paper highlights the variables effecting the Quality of Service(QoS) parametrs such as Energy consumption, Packet delivery ratio, Packets dropped and end to end delay.
