Abstract

Introduction: Learning analytics (LA) is quite an embryonic field which is still in its gestation period. It normally utilises paraphernalia like Business Astuteness or BI, data relating to students’ academics and learning pattern, social and interweb data analytical outcomes, etc., to improve knowledge and learning patterns. It is basically the estimation, finding and collection, examination and describing the data about scholars and their situations, for the sole schema targeted to know and refining the digital education in MOOCs or otherwise. This may also help in providing better digital infrastructural mechanisms utilized in digital education. This progression creates huge amount of data which give rise the essential necessity to examine such data and put to meaningful practice so that digital education practices can be improved and that in turn improves the learning among the students. Based on available research in various online sources like google scholar, Researchgate, springer and others, this study is intended to identify the requirement for estimation and quantification of learning in MOOCs.

Methodology: A sequential 4 step method is employed to frame this study as a systematic literature survey and review. On that basis it identifies the existing gaps and inadequacies that describes the academic ingestion in MOOC. The study explores available literature from the point of view of the interests Indian Management students. The 4 steps study comprises of widespread search of connected research studies from well-known national and international journal and literatures, studying the identified and collected scholarly work and then short sizing the collected studies to the primary studies, investigating and tabularization of different characteristics and attributes, like purpose and focus area, mathematical and /or statistical tools utilized, data analysis process, foremost conclusions and discoveries, etc. and finally detailing this examination in orderly manner.

Findings and discussion: The findings of this research work propose that apart from LA methods, its application and employment in edification and knowledge acquisition is principal objective of most of the study. Some studies erudite prognostic and statistical models on collected facts & figures for gaining improved perceptions. However, no studies were found that implied substantial emphasis on Management edification or Indian Situation or both. This research shows that not all MOOCs are focusing on evaluation or assessment and the MOOCs that are doing this are using online quiz or tests etc solely for the purpose of distributing credentials and certifications. No study was found that was working towards assessment of students’ learning.

Conclusion and recommendations: With respect to Digital education and MOOC courses, it can be safely assumed that a very precise and critical perspicacity is required to estimate learning of management students. In MOOC courses, density of learning among learners and scholars is required for the growth and progress of influential and beneficial digital study mechanism.
