An energy efficient distributed route selection approach for minimizing delay in WSNs

Abstract

The key feature of sensor nodes is to systematically collect information from diverse nodes inside the network and then transmitting the gathered data to the base station. Reliability of such networks could be strengthened by utilizing clustering methods that can organize a large wireless sensor network into interconnected groups thereby enhancing the life span of the networks. In wireless sensor network, interspace between the nodes and base station and also the space between the inter-connected nodes largely influences the energy utilization and also lifetime of the wireless network. Hence, to overcome this problem in wireless sensor network a Particle Swarm Optimization based distributed route selection approach is proposed for the transmission of information. The particle swarm optimization approach considers the energy, position and distance of every individual node present in the wireless network and then based on these values it chooses a suitable path which is the shortest and Which consumes less energy of the nodes thus optimizing the task of clustering. In this process, energy wastage on node replacement is minimized and thus the lifespan of the sensor network is improved. Simulation results shows that the suggested method minimizes transmission delay and energy utilization.
