Application of Topological Indices in Traffic Control Problems with specific reference to Bangalore

Abstract

In accordance with the report that is released by a location Technology Company named, TomTom, the most traffic overcrowded city in the world is Bengaluru. According to the results of TomTom Traffic Index, a report describing the traffic conditionamong 416 cities in 57 countries, Bengaluru city takes the top spot in the year 2019 with highest drivers in the southern Indian city expecting to spend an average of 71 per cent extra travel time trapped in traffic. In a statement released by the TOM2, every year Bengaluru citizens are spending an extra 240 hours in traffic, while driving during the peak hours. From morning 7:00 to 9:00 and evening 5:30 to 8:30, since it is the peak hours, there will be much traffic near the signals. If not controlled properly, it leads to severe congestion of traffic. The main objective of this research work is to present the application of graph theory topological indices in traffic flow modelling by denoting in terms of vertices and edges. The systematic and efficient traffic control management is analyzed in the current paper using thegraphs (connectivity and compatibility) and topological indices of traffic junctions. In this present work the concepts of edge and vertex connectivity were applied in traffic control management problems in an efficient way which results the reduced idle time of the traffic participants and the price to position the sending devices at suitable places in order to have a smooth traffic flow. A four and seven ways intersection stream at Silk Board Junction and KrishnarajaPuram junction is identified to find appropriate locations to position traffic sensing devices to accumulate traffic information. Randic, 'Zagreb first index' and 'Zagreb second index' topological indices are also calculated.
