Abstract

This research aims to review scientific studies based on both sustainable development and smart transportation principles to understand the relation between such concepts. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) has undergone great development in recent years. The advent of wireless communication technologies and the Internet of Things has revolutionized the way intelligent transport systems are designed. These systems have moved from systems that rely on cameras and magnetic induction loops to detect traffic to systems that use V2V communications (V2V) vehicle to vehicle and (V2I) vehicle to infrastructure. Specific description on some of the most recent scholarly reports on smart buildings and sustainable livelihoods is presented in this article. The study may serve as a base for more researchers who wish background information. The results provide useful insights for researchers studying the topic, and city managers are considering applying them to their cities in practice.
