Spatial Variation Of Crime Against Women In Nct Of Delhi (2001-2011)

Abstract

In Indian context, a woman occupies a vital position and venerable place. She has been glorified as the mother, the creator, ‘Devi’ or Goddess. But this glorification was mythical for at the same time, women found herself suppressed, subjugated, oppressed and faced the brunt of crimes- domestic, public, physical, emotional and mental. Data on Crime in India are published annually by the NCRB. These are compiled from records of police stations all over the NCT of Delhi and refer to reported and registered crime for recent years. Here, one way ANOVA is used for statistical significance. The Delhi Crime file presents a scary picture for women with the national capital registering more than double for various crimes against women during 2001-2011. This paper is an attempt to see what official, published data reveal, whether there are clear cut spatial variation of crime against women in NCT of Delhi and if so whether they can lead to meaningful hypothesis for future work.
