Abstract

In the current decade Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are widely used on many real time applications. WSN comprises of more number of sensor nodes with low power battery operated units which perform the operations such as sensing, data collection, computation, compression, transmission. The low power sensor nodeswhich sense some physical parameters from nature and forward those data to the sink. The sensor nodes are battery operated devices and it can be placed in some specific zone that helps in monitoring and structuring remote location. The network clustering can save the energy consumption of nodes and hence the lifetime of sensor nodes. This is an important energy saving approach. As like clustering routing also plays a significant role in reduction in energy consumption. The clustering and routing in WSN plays vital role in the energy consumption of sensor nodes. Hence to increase the life time of this network, different evolutionary and bio-inspired optimization techniques are studied and analyzed in this paper. This paper outlines issues in WSNs, and discusses its suitability for WSN applications. It also presents a brief survey of different optimization techniques to address these issues.
