Women Empowerment: A Study Of Political Participation Among Females In Tamilnadu, With Reference To Cuddalore District

Abstract

The study attempts to highlights the concept of empowerment is directly related to social, political and economic factors, how the women of cuddalore district, both educated and uneducated are aware of their powers, rights and duties and to evaluate whether women empowerment has helped to develop and advance in social, political and economic spheres and activities. The primary data was collected from respondents using interview schedule and discussion method through door to door survey. The result revealed that 44.54% of the respondents stated that education empowered to women and 55% opined that training as a primary reason to help empowerment of women. Besides majority of the respondents agreed that education empower them independence and freedom to decide, both at home and workplace, 40% have stated that financially independent women can undertake political activity, 46.36% agreed that empowered women can actively participate in political activity, 44.54% believe that married women’s are actively participating in political activity. Further, 41.36% women should be aware of political empowerment, half of the respondents stated that empowered women are generally successful in political activity, 46.36% stated that women involvement in political activity is only for voting, 55% of the respondents are as working women and 35.45% has no idea about the role of women party workers and their functions.
