An Insight Into The Cybercrimes And Cyber Security Measures In Bangladesh: Quest For Operative Legal Remedies

Abstract

In this digital world, the rapid evolution of information and communication technology has manifested with enormous blessings for mankind but additionally unlocked the doors for numerous technological crimes and security concerns. Communication and economic transactions through internet have become an indispensable part of this modern era as cyber space has turned into the felicitous medium to reach anyone at any time anonymously. Such protrusive use of internet has accelerated various cybercrimes around the globe and these crimes bear cumbersome challenges for both developing and developed countries as cyber space has no geographical boundaries. Bangladesh, on its journey towards digitalization and technological advancement has faced several instances of cybercrime since last few years which has gained extensive attention of academics, law enforcing agencies, legislature and mass people. In this context, this article tries to figure out the escalating factors and diverse patters of cybercrime in socio-economic sectors of Bangladesh. To this end the paper further analyzes the existing legal regime, regulatory bodies and their shortcomings to deal with the cases of cyber violence in the country. Lastly, this study suggests certain way forwards to strengthen cyber security measures for mitigating cyber violence with emphasize to safeguard cyber space from wicked use in Bangladesh.
