Abstract

The stability of power systems has been identified as a significant problem for reliable system operation because power system instability can cause blackouts. Power systems can be exposed to various disturbances; if disturbances are not detected and fixed as soon as possible, they will be able to turn a stable system into an unstable system. This paper examines the critical role of Static Var Compensator (SVC) and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) on transient voltage stability under disturbances. For the case studies, the IEEE 14-bus test system is chosen, and an SVC and STATCOM is connected to bus 4, individually. According to simulation results, they can improve the voltage profile and result in power system stability under disturbances.
